Learning to Spin on a Turkish Spindle - Summer Wool Festival 2025

Sunday 27 July, 2025:  10.15–11.45am (Area 1)

This 90-minute practical workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to learn to spin yarn on a drop spindle, or for those who have spun a little, but want some help with technique. 

In the workshop, we'll discuss:

• qualities of different types of wool and fibre, and how they affect your spinning
• twist, and why understand it will transform your spinning experience
• drafting your fibre
• making a leader and setting up your spindle
• the 'park and draft' method
• basic troubleshooting
• plying and finishing your yarn

All materials will be provided for use during the workshop. Participants will receive a discount on spindles that is valid for the whole show weekend.
