This is a spectacularly soft Merino and Tussah silk blend. The Merino is buttery soft and the silk is super shiny and will add a beautiful drape and shine to the yarn. I love the way that silk takes colours differently to the Merino, giving the final yarn a real depth of colour. The perfect blend for next to skin shawls and scarves.
This is part of our World Book Day collection and is inspired by Patrick Suskind’s novel Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, which is one of my favourite books of all time. It’s so beautifully written, and delves so sensuously and shamelessly into the olfactory world. When reading it, you start to open your nose to possible scents that surround you, and to think about how many layers there are to our surroundings that we can not even comprehend. It’s a grim story but it’s written with humour and an attention to detail that’s captivating. The colours reflect some of the scents that the protagonist/antagonist Grenouille encounters in his life of scent – cinnamon, nutmeg, mace, rose, jasmine, vanilla. There’s also a subtle, soft peach that represents the intoxicating scent of nascent womanhood that Grenouille so desires, and which leads him to unrepentant murder.
